Bloomington Police Dept National Night Out/Block Captain's Workshop - $5,000 to
increase public safety by enhancing community awareness and promote partnerships between the city and the community.
Bloomington Police Dept Automatic License Reader - $20,700 to provide a squad car mounted device that can read thousands of license plates in a shift, checking for stolen vehicles and other crimes.
Bloomington Police Dept Drivers Training - $8,000 to provide 8 hours of required officer drivers training classes every 5 years.
Bloomington Early Childhood Center - $3,400 to purchase books for kindergarten prep classes that teach positive social skills for children from low income and ELL homes.
Community Education Galaxy Center - $4,000 to provide high interest classes, selected by the youth attending the 3 middle schools after school hours and/or summer. Youth engaged in structured activities are less likely to be involved in negative behaviors.
Community Education Kid’s Safari Program - $800 for pre school and after school activities that provide a safe and educational environment for students. Provide positive alternatives to unsupervised out of school time.
Community Education Volunteer Connection SHAPE - $2,000 to provide legal awareness and education on immigration matters.
Bloomington Activity Centers - $1,200 to help fund the supervisory staff at the High School Activity Centers. Providing a safe, positive program for high school students who might otherwise be at risk for undesirable behavior.
Learning Exchange ISD 271 - $800 to help develop a four hour personal safety workshop on weather safety, personal safety and identity theft for people with disablities.
Southwood Early Childhood ISD 271 - $7,050 to install an electronic card/FOB reader system to increase building security.
Jefferson High School - $2,000 to fund attendance make-up sessions and Random Acts of Kindness.
All Night Graduation Party (KHS &JHS) - $1,000 ($500 each) to help fund safe activities for high school seniors after graduation.
Cornerstone Advocacy Service - $8,000 to fund teachers to provide an onsite preschool and parent education program at the Bloomington Sheila Wellstone Center.
Northern Star Juvenile Diversion Program – $5,000 for a diversion program available to first time offender teens as an alternative to the court system. Statistics show that teens who go through the diversion program seldom have repeat contact with the police.
Playground Partnership Program We Believe Alliance - $10,000 to provide staffing at city parks in the gap between the end of summer school and the beginning of the school year. This program is a partnership between several Bloomington churches, the City of Bloomington and the Bloomington Park and Rec Department.
Bloomington TreeHouse - $2,500 to fund transportation to and from TreeHouse programs for at-risk teens.
Normandale Community College Foundation - $4,000 for four $1,000 scholarships for Bloomington students attending NCC studying criminal justice.

Bloomington Police Dept National Night Out/Block Captain’s Workshop - $5,000 to increase public
safety by enhancing community awareness and promote partnerships
between the city and the community.
Bloomington Police Dept Portable Traffic Cameras - $19,000 to provide portable surveillance cameras in specific problem areas that will be monitored at the BPD.
Bloomington Police Dept School Lockbox Initiative - $3,640 to provide officers access to schools during emergency lockdowns and during after hour emergencies.
Bloomington Police Dept Explorer Post #624 - $1,000 to help offset the cost of attending the annual state conference.
Bloomington Early Childhood Center - $3,500 to provide kindergarten prep classes.

children who live in abusive homes. The goal of this program is to end
the cycle of abuse by teaching children how to deal with stress and
abuse.
One by One Tutoring - $500. This program provides volunteer tutors who work with children in east Bloomington who need help in school, providing food, education, mentors and family activities. The funds will be used to purchase incentives and food.

Community
Education Learning Exchange - $1000 to develop & offer a set of
classes for adults with disabilities on personal safety, identify theft
& fire prevention.
Community Education Kids Safari Program - $800 for after school
activities that provide a safe and educational environment for
students. Provide positive alternatives to unsupervised after school
time. A city wide “Lights on After School” celebration will be held in
October.
Bloomington Schools - $1,200 to the High School Activity Centers to
provide HS students a positive after school experience by offering open
gym twice a week. Providing a safe, positive program for high school
students who might otherwise be at risk for undesirable behavior.
One by One Tutoring - $1,000 for volunteer based tutoring program to
assist with homework and enhance reading and math skills to lower
income, Hispanic population in east Bloomington. Funds will be used to
purchase car/booster seats to meet state requirements.

Bloomington Police Dept Block Captain’s Workshop - $2,900 to provide training to block captains for a strong Neighborhood Watch program.
Community Education Bloomington Family Center - $3,500 to provide
training sessions to families so they are more knowledgeable on
stranger safety, personal safety and bullying. Provide two-way radios
to enhance building safety in case of emergency. Provide car seats so
children drive safely to school in district vans.

teaching youth about law enforcement careers, leadership and
communication skills.
Bloomington Police Dept K-9 Unit - $1,500 to acquire materials needed to update aging K-9 agility equipment.
Bloomington Police Dept COPS and KIDS Programs - $4,000 to provide the
opportunity for police officers to partner with local youth and
community members as baseball coaches. This program provides positive
interaction between COPS and area youth.
Bloomington Police Dept National Night Out - $7,000 to increase public
safety by enhancing community awareness and promote partnerships
between the city and the community.
Community Education Peace Factors - $6,500 to provide training to Kid’s
Safari staff so they can then teach students and their families how the
power of their thoughts, words and actions can create peace, make good
decisions and act in a way that will make a positive impact.
Cornerstone Advocacy Service - $10,000 to help provide funding for
Early Achievers preschool program. This program serves families in our
emergency shelter. Adults will attend parenting classes while children
attend preschool to help prepare them for Kindergarten, diminishing the
likelihood of future juvenile delinquency and increasing the likelihood
of healthy non-violent relationships.
Kennedy High School - $5,000 to fund
after school programs that will keep students busy and safe and away
from engaging in any non-productive or criminal acts.
Playground Partnership Program We Believe Alliance - $10,000 to provide
an affordable safe haven that offers children K to grade 5
opportunities to learn new skills, such as conflict resolution, build
positive relationships, and stay out of trouble. Fill the gap in
services that occur in the summer months for elementary age children.
Crime Stoppers - $5,000 for a project to increase the flow of crime
information to law enforcement and esp. Bloomington Police Department
for the resolution of crimes.
Jefferson High School - $5,000 will be spent
on supervisors for attendance make-up sessions and the weight room
after school. Strong attendance is needed to keep kids in school and
out of trouble. The weight room provides a place for kids after
school. It will also help pay for fees associated with school for
families in distress.
Normandale Community College Foundation - $4,000 for scholarships for Bloomington students attending NCC studying criminal justice.

Normandale Community College Foundation – Normandale Community College Scholarship for one Bloomington student majoring in criminal justice.
Jefferson High School, Kennedy High School - All-Night Graduation Party to provide a safe after-graduation event for graduates at both high schools.

Lights on After School is a national event that celebrates the
importance of quality after school programs and the need to keep the
lights on and the doors open before and after school and on non-school
days.
Bloomington Fire Dept - Fire prevention materials for elementary school children.

- Cops and Kids Sports Program provides an opportunity for hundreds of
youth to benefit from interacting with volunteer police officers in
each of three sports programs: baseball, hockey and basketball.

employees from violent people who might enter a business (the first one
of it’s kind in the country).

to adult learners with varying levels of education and English
abilities.

- Provide seminars to 144 children and their families, that provide
information and skills necessary for keeping children and family
members safe.
Jefferson High School, Kennedy High School - Support low income and/or high-risk youth participating in after school violence prevention activities.

- Dedicated trailer to store and transport equipment to special events
that educate and support the community about Bloomington Police
Department programs and services.
Bloomington Police Dept - Support the Bloomington Law Enforcement Explorer Post 624 in meeting their 2008-09 expenses.

- Assist with 25th Annual Night Out events on August 5, 2008 –
primarily promotional materials for National Night Out and Bloomington
Crime Prevention Association.
Community Education Galaxy Youth Center - Provide specialized classes at three schools that will increase the number of “high risk” middle school youth
involved in supervised programs after school.
Jefferson High School - Camera to document damage
to property, vandalism and graffiti for Bloomington Police Department
to investigate cases and prevent future damage to school district
property at JHS.
Bloomington Police Dept - Safe Fume Cyanocrylate Fuming Chamber for use by Bloomington Police Dept crime technicians as a forensic tool.
